MARION LE CRAYON
About
I am a French artist living in Fremantle, beautiful coastal town in Western Australia. My house is pretty close to the ocean.
The more I swim in the ocean and observe it, the more I see a metaphor of life through it. I don't want to paint the ocean in a realistic manner. I am seeking to share how it makes me feel, what it is showing me; My emotions like waves, daring to dive, daring to go deep... The repercussion of fear with 'dangerous' fish, the intuition. The beauty! The silence. The cold, sometimes healing and sometimes excruciating. To stop breathing makes me aware of breath, and life.
Created in 2020/2021, 'Lots Of Fish' was born after a strong desire to express something 'from within' and get a bit wilder and free with the very simple medium that is black ink.
When I draw 'Lots Of Fish', I like to think that it is a movement, created by many many many different individual fish. Each fish is important to create a beautiful shape and shine its light, and all of them are becoming one. Fish symbolise emotions too. The ones we need to go through and feel so we can grow and get stronger.
The ocean exploration through my artist's eyes continues with a second series of artworks in collaboration with Julie Casali, underwater photographer. The work is still in progress, and this time I use watercolour to keep the connection with the water element.
Caricature drawing is another one of my skills. If you are curious and want to know more about this, click here!
